May 6th, World of Outlaws Late Model Series from Orrville, OH

Bear Lake, Pennsylvania driver Chub Frank did it again Saturday night at
Wayne County Speedway, winning his sixth sanctioned event at the 3/8ths
semi-banked oval.  Chub was the best of the 47 car field on this brisk
evening treating the packed house to a great show.  At the start, pole sitter
Matt Miller and third place starter Tim McCredie made quick work of
outside pole sitter Rick Eckert, while Chub Frank and Rick Eckert battled
for third.  After great side by side action for 14 laps, Frank eventually got
the upper hand on Eckert and the hunt was on.  On lap 22, Chubzilla
passed McCreadie for second and set his sights on Matt Miller.  After a lap
24 caution for debris, Miller once again jumped out front, but this time it
was McCreadie was on his bumper.  McCreadie took the high side around
Frank on the restart and put heavy pressure on Miller for the lead.  T-Mac
threw everything but the kitchen sink at Miller and finally made it around
him on lap 34.  His lead was to be short lived though as Chubzilla was
roaring back from the poor restart.  Chub wasted little time passing Miller
on the inside and quickly caught up to McCreadie.  On lap 42, Chub was
able to finally sneak under McCreadie, who was running the high side quite
well, on his way to victory.  In victory lane Chub dedicated this race to Orry
Wirt, the son of veteran driver Dave Wirt, who passed away April 28th from
injuries sustained from a car accident on April 2nd.  Chub said "We won
the tire game as we chose a harder tire than the other drivers did.  Believe
me, I didn't want to see any more cautions."  Following Frank home to
victory was Tim McCreadie, Matt Miller, Rick Eckert, Dave Hess Jr., Ryan
Markham, Darrell Lanigan, Ricky Elliott, Charlie Duncan, and Billy Moyer.
This was one of the best field of cars I've ever seen, and only two cars
went a lap down and no one dropped out for mechanical problems.  That's
pretty amazing considering there was 24 cars in the 50 lap event.  As
usual, Davis took a ton of photos, and he even got a few video clips that
are posted to the right.  Thanks Vuk for a job well done.

Surprises:  I was very surprised how well
the track looked.  They definitely added
banking to the track and the crew kept it
perfect all evening.  I was also surprised
to see my old friend Marcus Malcuit there
checkin' out Uncle Brad's racing revival.

Well, I don't know if I should be surprised
about this, but my hats off to Charlie
Duncan and Ryan Markham for their
spectacular performance against the
World of Outlaw Late Models Series
regulars.  Both recorded top 10 finishes.
Disappointments:  Bart Hartman.  He
qualified well, had a flat tire in the heat
race, but couldn't make it into the show
through the B Main.  As racy as the
track was, he should have made it to
the Buckeye Classic 50.
Even though the track was racy and
there was a lot of side by side racing
going on, there wasn't that much
passing.  Dresden, OH driver Donnie
Moran picked up the most spots by
passing seven cars.  Disappointing.
By far the biggest disappointment of
the evening as it is at every track, was
the asshole's that cannot figure out
how to leave the track in an orderly
fashion.  The picture to the right says it
all.
I have to give the folks at Wayne County Speedway a
huge round of applause for an A+ evening of racing.
The track crew had there game face on as well, as the
speedway was in the best condition that I've ever
seen it.  Great job guys, keep up the good work.  I
can't wait for the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series
that will appear Thursday June 1st.  Bentfenders.com
will be there and hopefully will bring you some good
coverage.  -Bentfenders
