| September 4th, Orrville, OH Lots of cars and hungry drivers filled the pits for one last hurrah this season at Wayne County Speedway Monday night as Mother Nature finally gave us a chance this weekend to take in the 3rd Annual Freedom Fighters 50. The skies were cloudy and the wind was chilly, and the evening started to heat up with the Hague Crystal Clear Mini Stock feature Event. Josh Morrow, who won Friday's event, was eligible for a $500 bonus if he could win again on Monday. Starting from fourth position, Josh took the lead on lap one and never looked back picking up the win and the bonus cash. You'll have to bear with me because I don't know any of the drivers in this division, but second through fifth put on a great race, dualing back and forth lap after lap. One person I did meet pitside was Chad Young, who started 15th and finished 3rd in his good looking Countryside Body and Welding #55 Dodge Neon. He told me in the pits that "You have to keep these Neon's wound up in order for them to go." He kept it high and was patient enough to run his line and came home with a podium finish. Next out was the Thrifty Muffler Pure Stocks, and pole sitter Brad Channell wasted no time jumping into the lead and holding on for the win. Track champion Troy Anderson did apply some pressure and tried a few moves, but never had the motor to get around the crafty veteran. I couldn't tell who finished third through fifth because there was a turn two melee that shook up the pack behind Channel and Anderson. Oh well, we know who finished first and second. Finally, the Freedom Fighters 50 took to the track, with Charlie Duncan and Rick Bond setting the pace. Zanesville, OH driver Rick Auckland was the one eligible for a $25,000 bonus if he could pick up the win Monday as he won on Friday. Bond quickly jumped into the lead and never looked back, winning the biggest prize in his lengthy career, holding off Duncan, Auckland, Berner, and Doug Drown. Bond had a lot of motor and his car handled well off of the corners as Duncan could close up to him in the corners, but was short of power down the straightaways. In victory lane, the emotional Bond proclaimed "I was ready to give up this season. We had such bad luck and we weren't running very well for what great equipment we have. It means so much to me to beat a field of drivers like the ones here tonight." Congratulations Rick on a job well done. Well once again, I forgot my camera. I'm so used to Davis being there it's not on my priority list to bring it, so sorry folks, no pictures this week. As the racing season winds down, I am encouraging folks to use the for sale page. I will also try to be doing some stories and some off season smack to get us through the winter. If anyone would like to share any stories and pictures please contact me at admin@bentfenders.com. I will try to correspond, although I am kinda handcuffed with time. See ya at he races, DJ. |
